The risk for losing weight too quickly is a serious one. Word has it that Matt Damon suffered badly from losing weight at a dramatic pace in order to fit the character he was playing in a particular movie. His adrenal gland took a beating from the amount of weight he had to lose at such a limited period of time that he continued taking medications years after the movie was shot. This goes to show how dangerous it is to push your body to the limits and shed unrealistic amount of weight at such a short period of time.
Because of the hype surrounding weight loss, you can see gazillions of advertisements promising the quickest way to lose weight and help you shed those extra pounds in as little as a week or two. But do you know about the risks for losing weight too quickly? If you are still in the dark about this, take a look at the following:
- Dehydration due to water weight loss. Losing weight at such a rapid pace would cause your body to drop its water weight. While this seems like an appealing idea, you need to know that losing water can cause dehydration which in turn causes a host of other illnesses. Without water, your body can barely function. Don’t pressure your system to shed pounds than it can naturally handle. You’d end up causing more damage in your system.
- Diarrhea and constipation. Now this definitely doesn’t sound pleasant at all. Diarrhea leads to constipation which in turn leads to dehydration. When this situation gets full-blown, it can be life-threatening. This couldn’t have been more true than when you get into fasting for extended period of time. Instead of forcing your system to do this impossible tasks, adopt a healthier lifestyle like eating a well-balanced meal with emphasis on foods containing fiber. Weight loss, when done at a natural, healthy pace is one of the most wonderful things you can do to your system. If you’re a little obsessed about flushing away all those toxins and impurities that have built up in your stomach, then try going organic and avoiding processed foods altogether. Eating foods in their natural, organic state is a whole lot healthier than devouring foods that come in box and cans.
- Malnutrition. One of the severe risks for losing weight too quickly is depriving yourself of the much-needed nutrients. Cutting down your calorie intake to the bare minimum would pose a lot of problems as your body needs its daily calorie sustenance. And it goes without saying that going on a crash diet would deprive you of vitamins and minerals that you so needed to function properly at work and at home. Malnutrition lowers your immune system and disarms your body’s defenses against diseases. If you continue going down this road, you’d soon find yourself hospitalized due to some fever that you normally don’t acquire. Remember that a well-balanced diet is still the best and the only acceptable way to go when losing weight. When coupled with regular exercise, you will be well on your way to getting that perfect body in no time.
